I'm a little bit cuuunntry... I'm a little bit rock n' roll

more updates from the intern:

Wow, I know I keep using the word amazing to describe everything here but it truly, truly is. Thursday night we went to a bar to hang out and then managed to get into a really crowded club. We were hanging out with some persians ( enuff' said if you attend UCLA ) and we didn't wait in line, didn't pay the stupid cover, and got to go up to the "special" third floor to shake our booties. It was sooooooooooo much fun, reminded me a lot of a Las Vegas style club . . . ::sniff, sniff::

Friday morning was a bit painful for me to wake up, went to sleep around 4ish and woke up at 9:30 for work. Strolled into work around 10:15, when I was supposed to start at 9 . . . but it was Friday so no one really noticed. Friday I went up on the Hill again, this time just to run some docs around but I love me some manual labor so no complaints at all ! I needed to run off those beers !

Afterwards I took a little time out for myself and hung out in Union Station, an old train station they turned into a beautiful shopping mall/restaurant area. There is the best food court you have ever seen here, everything and anything your heart could desire :
Armenian food, Indian food, deli style sandwiches, fried food, Chinese, Japanese, Thai, BBQ, a place that just sold cookies and so much more . . . it took my piggy butt 20 mins. of walking around in there to finally decide on a deli sandwich ! But it was a great little lunch by myself, time for me to get a little pensive about DC.

Everything here is just so different than California. The lifestyle, the places, the food, the dress, the people, it's incredible how inspiring this city is. There is a great feeling of independence that overwhelms you when you realize that this is the town that runs our entire country. I love being a city person, walking to the local market to get my groceries, taking the Metro to the Hill, walking around people in their suits, there is so much to see and do that I don't think I could ever get tired of it.

Last night was one of the best so far. A HUGE group of us, about 30 went to Addams-Morgan, a little area in town that has so much character and life in it that you can't help but fall in love with it. It stretches for blocks and consists of every genre of bar and club you could possibly imagine, restaurants galore, and it goes well into the night. I left yesterday at 2:30am and people were just getting there. The vibe there is so chill and diverse. Everyone was there, young, old, punk, conservative, it was just a great scene. And surprisingly the group managed to stay pretty well together and it was a great oppurtunity to get to meet more people in the program. So far I have met nothing other than really cool, intelligient people.

Today I managed to rouse myself up outta bed at a decent time and me and my roomies went to the Smithsonian, or at least, part of it ! This place is humongous ( for lack of a better word . . . heehee ) but that was great too. We were there for about 3 hours and maybe covered about 1/15 of all there is to see there. So, the night is young, we're all gonna head out to dinner and then out on the town, of course. It doesn't end here !

I hope all is well with you and that these emails are bearable. I just can't help but share my passion with you all. This experience is definitely renewing my spirit and is a refreshing break from the confines and superficiality of LA. Take care and write me back when you can !
Always,
me
