I got the Magic Stick..

Been a while since the last update.. lessee how long it takes heheh

Activation was uhh… interesting. Im glad the Nu class came together like they did, as if they weren’t bonded together already. It is unfortunate that Joe didn’t cross, but I just wish that these new actives realized where we were coming from as everything happened. Looking at their frustrated faces and fire in their eyes, they weren’t listening to what we were saying. Plus, I don’t think we came across as I would like us to have, so as for next qtr, I hope for the best. Francie’s got a big job ahead of her, but she’s gonna do great, and shes got a great team working with her.
It all came together at banquet though, the tears that did flow were tears of joy and sadness for the graduates, not of disappointment and frustration. Banquet went really well, everything was really nice and meaningful. We only had an hour or so to shake our thangs, but it was all good. We hooked it up at the party at my place afterwards. Pledges and actives bonding together, not actives vs pledges. Hopefully this will last thru the next quarter. Congrats to Nu class, and congrats to APO for having new members such as these.
Oh, and thanks to those who stayed to clean up my place while i was dropping people off

Dim sum on Sun, YUM of course
Mon i think was the first day we beat Enter the Martix. Thanks again to Mary T for getting it for me! then yesterday, we beat it again using Ghost. sweet game! Today i played the tekken master (jason) when we unlocked the multiplayer part to it..
now bowling..

but before that..
heres an update from our intern! (maybe the last one):

Hey ya'll ! What's up ? This will probably be my last update for a while since my research paper is due Friday and then I will spend my last week trying to soak in as much of DC as possible before I must depart (June 14 ). I have to say that while home and Cali are wonderful, this is one chapter of my life that I will be very sad to close. I guess that's a good thing though ? !

Memorial Day weekend was wonderful, Momz came to visit and I took her all around town. She got in late Thursday night and we stayed up till 3 am chatting like girlfriends. On Friday I got her up bright and early and took her all around town, we hit everywhere - Capitol Hill, Union Station, the Smithsonians and the Library of Congress. The weather was a little rainy but I guess it was better than too hot and humid. After we did the tourist thing from about 10am - 5pm we went to Borders and read magazines and drank coffee together for a while. That was probably one of my favorite parts of that day since we stopped rushing around for once and really just got to enjoy our time together. Friday night we had a really good dinner and then walked to the White House and Lincoln Memorial. It was truly a beautiful sight and there were only a handful of people around ( since it was midnight ) so it made it a lot more sentimental then during the day when the busloads of kids are milling around.

Saturday we hit the rest of the Smithsonians ( there are five ) and then relaxed a bit before dinner. The Smithsonian experience was a bit frustrating since EVERY tourist from the west coast to the midwest ( especially the midwest ) seemed to be in town for Memorial Day. That night we went to Adams Morgan ( the most cultural area of DC ) for Ethiopian food ! I had heard raves about it and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. We got a sampler platter with all different types of meats in these stews like sauces. Then they give you this dough stuff that you use to scoop it up since they don't use utensils. The food was great and the cultural experience of it was even better. Afterwards we hit up some old bookstores and I got some unique books and then had a few drinks at Dupont Circle. ( prominently gay district of DC )

Sunday we got up bright and early again and went to go trek around Georgetown. After a really good brunch we headed back and her shuttle came to pick her up at 4. I only wish her time here was longer since I felt so rushed for her to see everything, but I have to say - given the circumstances she really got to see everything in DC.

Sunday night there was a Memorial Day concert at the Capitol so I went with a few girls and in the rain we sang our country's anthem and enjoyed some jazz and classical. Gosh, as I getting that old that my idea of a concert is jazz and classical ? Ahhh ! heehee. But of course, the fact that there were four adorable marines standing near us made the experience that much more memorable. Gosh I looooooove men in uniform. Overall the experience made me extremely proud to be an American.

Last week my work took us out to a goodbye lunch and then threw us another goodbye party the next day ! And last Friday was also the farewell dinner for everyone in the program since UCI, UCR, and UCSD were leaving. Santa Cruz is still here till this Sat. and Davis and us UCLA kids are here till June 14. The dinner was nice and short, some people presented skits and said farewell. The slideshow was pretty emotional . . .
I'm glad the UCLA program is the longest. I don't really understand what the point of moving to the other side of the country is if you're going to rush back home ? The UCs that left early still have two weeks until they graduate, what are they gonna do now that they are back so early ? Bother their friends who still have finals ? heehee. Their program also sucks since they had their papers due last Friday, the going away dinner, they're last night to harrah and then had to be moved out of the building by 1pm at the latest !

Today is my last day at work and I am truly sad. I have loved my job and the people I work with. I'm so glad to have had this experience, I have met so many inspiring people and this is a great place to have for my future east coast connections ! ( note that i said "future" . . . )

In other news, it's now less than two weeks to go. I can safely say that everyone I have met on the program has been pretty cook and that we're all pretty sad about having to leave this place soon. Personally, I feel as though I have really made my home here and I can definitely see myself coming back later to live. The only downfalls I see are the weather, the winters and summers mainly - and that fact that I will be far from family which is probably the hardest one for me to stomach. But DC really does have it all, a little urban, a little country if you drive just outside to Maryland or Virginia and of course New York and Boston all a busride away.

While Cali does have it's redeeming qualities I just really feel like I am burnt out from the West Coast scene. I'm sure I don't have to repeat my hatred for the overall mentality of most southern california folk. I hate to be so prejudice but in my opinion, there is a clear cut difference between the mentality here and the mentality there and I would trade the East Coast for LA any day. Plus, all the great restaurants help too !

Well, I could go on forever being sentimental here but I'll spare you. Afterall, you have all read this far so you deserve a break ! For most of you, I will be seeing you soon. Otherwise good luck on finals for most and take care of yourself in the meantime !
With love always,
Kristine <-- the soon to be "ex dc intern" AWWW !! = (
