so me grace and laura went to hang out with nattida last night (NOT at guppys), and after eating dinner we went back to her place and hung out at her pool.
we were sitting around the jaccuuzi with our feet in the water talking, and this guy from outside the gate yells: "the pool closes at 10, and you're keeping my daughter up. either leave or quiet down or i will call the sherrif on you guys." first of all, there wasn't any signs around saying when the pool closes, i know because i looked around for them when we got there.
ok maybe it doesnt *read* like what he said was rude but it definitely was uncalled for. a simple "please quiet down" would have sufficed. in fact, it would have proven more effective. if her daughter was kept up by us talking in our normal tone, she definitely would have heard her dad yelling. what kind of example is that to show your kid? cmon now.
sure, we didnt realize we were being SO loud with our normal talking, but there are better and more effective ways to ask someone to lower their voices. maybe its just me in a customer service job saying this, but when someone is polite and respectful to me on the phone, i am more likely to comply without even a second thought. the irate callers who get transferred to me and yell as soon as they hear me click over don't get to hear what they want.
its just human nature to be nicer to people who return the favor. use that to your advantage, people. things are just better when respect is in the mix. you may be upset or pissed off, but how you deal with it is what separates us from eachother (and animals).
